The Midmar Mile swim was a huge success well done everybody more than 16000 people

Thousands of swimmers converged today in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, to compete in the world’s largest open water swimming event. Held annually in summer over two days, the event attracts thousands of competitors from international athletes to amateurs. The one mile race is dependent on the rainfall and dam water levels. It started in 1974 after petrol restrictions forced three friends to remain in the province after they could not compete in the Buffalo Mile in East London. The Midmar Dam then became the venue to hold a similar race. Thirty-six years later it has become an iconic event
